Arne Klempert and the Wikipedia
One encyclopaedia for each person on this planet

Rather unnoticed by the public an empty website was put on the net in 2001, waiting for volunteers to fill it with contents. Four years and 1.5 million articles later the free encyclopaedia Wikipedia is among the 100 most popular websites in the world. Volunteers work in 100 languages to expand the project: pupils and pensioners, students and professors. The Wikipedians, as the active authors would call themselves, do not only wish to collect the knowledge of the human kind, they also wish to make it freely accessible for everyone.
